“Quite a few otherwise intelligent men and women take it as established principle that we can know as true only what can be verified by empirical methods of experimentation and observation.” (1)

Science:  the god slayer

For most of human history, fantastical myths plagued man’s understanding of the universe. Silly, outlandish gods guarded man against the terrors and tremors of this dark world, filled his head with superstition, and chained him to his ignorance, thus subjugating the world to the father of violence and hate, King Ignoramus. Thankfully, out of a primordial muck arose Science, who saved man from the bondage of myth. She educated man, slew the gods of Ignoramus, and in a bloody battle, dethroned the vile King. In gratitude, educated man adorned Science with the most elegant of crowns:

A Truth

~We can know as true only what can be verified by empirical methods of experimentation and observation.~

How ironic it was when lowly Ignoramus, desiring to understand the treasure bestowed the new queen, asked:

“Upon what scientific instrument can this Truth be hoisted to take a measurement and validate its worth?”

A fanciful fiction to be sure and crafted by a simpleton no less, but if John Lennox’s statement is true: “Nonsense remains nonsense, even when talked by world-famous scientists”, then surely the inverse can also be true: Truth remains truth, even when talked by world-class idiots.

Many leaders in education would have us believe that science should serve as the foundation of all knowledge; science will eventually fill all our knowledge gaps of the universe; and religion works only to undermine scientific facts. But is all that true? Is science the foundation of knowledge? Is it possible to learn everything in this universe from science? Are science and religion in conflict? Or could we simply be confused because we trust the current educational system for establishing our knowledge framework and fail to look fully into the arguments ourselves?
