Death
For what possible reason would a person need the word death defined? Who doesn’t know what the word means? We live, we die, we feed the worms….it’s the final curtain call, the dirt nap, the grand exit, checked out, cashed out, finished,…it’s…the end.
Why would anyone need that word defined? But here it is…
From Dictionary.com
1. the act of dying; the end of life; the total and permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an organism.
4. extinction; destruction
And from Meriam-Webster.com
1 a : a permanent cessation of all vital (see vital 2a) functions
4 : the state of being no longer alive
All those words seem to fit reasonably well within the same pine box. So why dig any further?
Well, what if death is actually different than that? What if it isn’t simply…the end? What idea might the word death embody when used in a Christian context?
The authors of the below linked articles present death under a different light.
They then confront an interesting challenge to the Christian faith.
